Uyuni - Tupiza 3D/2N Programme

 

Description

Salar de Uyuni 55Day 1: Uyuni-San Juan. Departure from Uyuni to the small village of Colchani where locals extract and process salt. This will be the beginning of the adventure. You will be shown interesting aspects of the geological history of the Uyuni´s Salt Lake, about current natural processes of salt formation that continues for thousands of years, also observe the Ojos de Sal (or salt eyes), where ice cold healing water bubbles through the salt. This water originates in an underground river from the Tunupa Volcano. On the way to Isla Incahuasi, the drive will pass two of the first hotel made entirely from salt blocks, now converted in sort of small museums. At the Isla Incahuasi, enjoy your lunch and hike among the huge cacti and observe the wildlife of this rare habitat. Arrival to the San Juan Village in the late afternoon. Visit an historical church and cemetery and learn some history of the place. Dinner and overnight at San Juan. (L, D)

Day 2: San Juan-Laguna Colorada. After breakfast, the journey continues heading to Paso de León to observe the Ollague Volcano, which is currently mildly active. There will be several stops as ther trip reaches several lagoons: Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota, Honda and Ramaditas; these offer opportunities to see 3 flamingo species: James, Andean and Chilean. Lunch on the way. Later cross to the spectacular Siloli Desert and appreciate its natural monuments carved by the wind, such as the Arbol de Piedra (or Stone Tree). Before sunset, arrival to Laguna Colorada, inside the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna Reserve. More flamingos can be observed, as well as other such as Llamas, Alpacas, Suris (or Andean Rea) and Vicunas. Day 3: Laguna Colorada-San Antonio de Lipez. Start with breakfast and continue to visit other natural attractions of the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna Reserve, such as the Sol de Mañana shooting geysers and hot mud boiling pools. Later visit to a natural hot springs pool with safe bathing temperatures, where you are welcome to soak for a while. We will also visit the Salvador Dali Rock Desert and the Laguna Verde, at the base of the Licancabur Volcano. Lunch. The trip continues to San Antonio de Lipez. (B, L, D) Day 4: San Antonio de Lipez-Tupiza. After breakfast, the trip continues arriving to Tupiza in around 5 hrs. Lunch on the way. (B, L)
