Include Tunupa Visit
Day 1: we begin the trip in San Pedro de Atacama, direction to Hito Cajon- border between Chile and Bolivia- to start your visit with Laguna Blanca and Laguna Verde, at the base of the Licancabur Volcano. The drive continues north to the Salvador Dali Rock Desert to later continue to a hot springs pool, the Sol de Mañana geysers, the spectacular Laguna Colorada where you can observe thousands of flamencos, lunch and accommodations in the Huayllajara hostal.
Day 2: breakfast, then continue visiting the Arbol de Piedra (Stone Tree) and cross the Siloli Desert. Lunch on the way. We will make several stops to visit the five lagoons, Ramaditas, Chiarcota, Honda, Hedionda and Cañapa. The trip will continue to Paso de León a viewpoint to observe the Ollague Volcano, which is currently mildly active. Arrival to San Juan after sunset. (B,L, D)
Day 3: San Juan – Uyuni´s Salt Lake-Tunupa. After breakfast, the drive continues towards the Uyuni´s Salt Lake crossing to reach the Isla Pescado, located almost at the center of the endless salt lake, and which offers spectacular views of the area. The crossing heads to the northern part of the salt lake, to the Tunupa Volcano. We can drive or hike to the most accessible hillsides of this volcano to get amazing views of the Uyuni, to visit to this smaller island will give you a chance to hike among giant cacti and reach the top to see a spectacular 360 degree view of the Uyuni´s Salt Lake. Lunch.
The final part of the tour will be a cross to the eastern part of the salt lake, to the Colchani Village. On the way you will see the first hotel made entirely from salt blocks, which is now a small museum. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the geological history of the salt lake and see some interesting features such as the Ojos de Sal (or salt eyes) where ice cold healing water bubbles through the salt. Also will see how locals shovel, dry, extract, and load tons of salt to be transferred to their local plants near the salt lake, then train cementery. Finally we will make a transfer to Villa Mar, visiting during the trip the indigenous town of San Cristobal, Villa Alota, Rock's Valley and the Black Lagoon. Overnighter in Villa Mar.
Day 4: the day start at 5 AM with destination Hito Cajón. During the trip we will visit the Capina Lagoon, to observe flamingos. Then we will make a stop in hot springs. At the end we go to Hito Cajón to get the transfer to San Pedro de Atacama Uyuni - Hito Cajón (B)
